Speedy

Lorraine “Speedy” Ellison is a 1985 graduate of August Martin H.S. and a proud Forever Martin Angel coached by our #1 Angel, Joel Ascher.  It goes without saying we owe everything to ASH!  My hope is that he is proud of ALL Of Us and will continue to rest in peace🙏🏾. We Love You Ash!

After an exceptional experience in high school winning multiple city and state championships, I received a full basketball scholarship to Old Dominion University (ODU).  After one year, I transferred to Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and continued my college basketball career. I graduated in 1990 with a B.S. Degree in Economics.

After college, I obtained my first professional job. I also began a career not in coaching but in officiating. Over 25 years of women’s basketball officiating in various conferences: ACC, Big East, MEAC, A-10, IVY League, Patriot League, America East, Northeast and CIAA. The joy of officiating women’s basketball kept me in on the court. Off the court, I was fortunate enough to have a great career with GEICO in various supervisor and management positions. After 21 years of service, I retired in 2022.

Currently, I travel A LOT and I Love It! I seek new experiences and look forward to crossing many of those experiences off my bucket list. I’m also the Operations Manager for MDD3 Logistics. Yes, Linda Hill, my Angel sister and Best Friend For Life, is my Boss! Good thing we got along in high school. Above all else, I will always make each day count and live life to fullest.

On behalf of Joel Ascher and my Angel Sisters, please know that we are Blessed, Thankful and Extremely Grateful to be honored and recognized for our accomplishments and contribution to girls and women’s basketball.
